Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey
Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey (1517-1547), was an English nobleman and poet known for his contributions to the literary scene during the Renaissance. He was a member of the Howard family, one of the most prominent families in England, and served as a soldier and courtier under King Henry VIII.
Surrey is often credited with introducing the Petrarchan sonnet form to English poetry, influencing later poets like William Shakespeare. His works include themes of love and chivalry, and he is remembered for his innovative use of blank verse. Surrey's life ended tragically when he was executed for treason in 1547.
