Helios Probes
The Helios Probes are a pair of spacecraft launched by NASA and the German Aerospace Center in the 1970s to study the Sun. Named Helios 1 and Helios 2, these probes were designed to gather data on solar wind, magnetic fields, and solar radiation. They provided valuable insights into the Sun's behavior and its impact on the solar system.
Both probes traveled closer to the Sun than any previous spacecraft, reaching distances of about 43 million kilometers (27 million miles). Their findings have significantly advanced our understanding of solar physics and contributed to the study of space weather and its effects on Earth.
