Hedd Wyn
Hedd Wyn was the bardic name of Ellis Humphrey Evans, a Welsh poet born in 1887. He is best known for his poignant poetry that often reflected themes of nature and the beauty of rural life. Hedd Wyn gained recognition when he won the prestigious National Eisteddfod crown in 1917 for his poem "Yr Arwr" (The Hero).
Tragically, Hedd Wyn's life was cut short when he was killed in action during World War I just a few months before the Eisteddfod. His death symbolized the loss of a generation of young talent, and his legacy continues to resonate in Welsh literature and culture today.
