Hayreddin Barbarossa
Hayreddin Barbarossa was an Ottoman admiral born in 1478 on the island of Lesbos. His real name was Khizr Reis, but he earned the nickname "Barbarossa," meaning "Redbeard," due to his distinctive facial hair. He became famous for his naval prowess and played a crucial role in expanding the Ottoman Empire in the Mediterranean during the 16th century.
Barbarossa served under Suleiman the Magnificent and led successful campaigns against various European powers, including Spain and Venice. His strategic skills and innovative tactics helped establish Ottoman dominance at sea, making him one of the most celebrated naval commanders in history.
