Piri Reis
Piri Reis was an Ottoman admiral, navigator, and cartographer who lived in the 16th century. He is best known for his world map, created in 1513, which is one of the oldest surviving maps of the Americas. His work combined knowledge from various sources, including ancient Greek and Roman texts, as well as information from explorers of his time.
In addition to his maps, Piri Reis authored a book called Kitab-ı Bahriye, which detailed navigation and maritime knowledge. His contributions significantly advanced the understanding of geography and navigation in the Ottoman Empire and beyond, influencing future explorers and cartographers.
