Hawaiian Plants
Hawaiian plants are unique due to the islands' isolated location in the Pacific Ocean. Many species, such as the Hawaiian hibiscus and silversword, are endemic, meaning they are found nowhere else in the world. The diverse climates across the islands support a wide variety of plant life, from lush rainforests to arid deserts.
The native flora includes both flowering plants and ferns, with over 1,000 species of native plants identified. Some, like the koa tree and ʻōhiʻa lehua, play crucial roles in the ecosystem, providing habitat and food for native wildlife. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect these unique species from threats like invasive plants.
