Hasmoneans
The Hasmoneans were a dynasty of Jewish rulers that emerged in the 2nd century BCE after the successful revolt against the Seleucid Empire. This revolt, led by the Maccabees, aimed to restore Jewish religious practices and independence. The Hasmonean dynasty established a period of Jewish sovereignty in the region, expanding its territory and influence.
Under the Hasmoneans, the Jewish state experienced significant cultural and political developments. They promoted the Hebrew language and Jewish traditions while also engaging in conflicts with neighboring powers. The dynasty lasted until the Roman conquest in 63 BCE, marking the end of their rule and the beginning of Roman influence in Judea.
