Hashd Al-Shaabi
Hashd Al-Shaabi, also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), is an umbrella organization of various Iraqi militias formed in 2014. It was established to combat the rise of ISIS in Iraq and is composed of both Shia and Sunni groups, as well as Christian and Yazidi fighters. The organization operates under the command of the Iraqi government and has played a significant role in the fight against terrorism.
The Hashd Al-Shaabi has been officially recognized as a part of the Iraqi security forces, receiving funding and support from the government. While it has been praised for its contributions to defeating ISIS, the group has also faced criticism for alleged human rights abuses and its close ties to Iran. Its influence in Iraqi politics and security continues to be a topic of debate.
