Hamate bone
The hamate bone is one of the eight small bones that make up the wrist, known as the carpal bones. It is located on the ulnar side of the wrist, between the capitate bone and the pisiform bone. The hamate is unique because it has a hook-like projection called the hamulus, which serves as an attachment point for ligaments and tendons.
This bone plays a crucial role in wrist stability and movement, allowing for a range of motions in the hand. Injuries to the hamate bone can occur, especially in athletes who use their hands frequently, such as in baseball or golf.
