Hand Anatomy
The human hand consists of 27 bones, including the carpals, metacarpals, and phalanges. The carpals are the eight small bones that form the wrist, while the five metacarpals make up the middle part of the hand. Each finger has three phalanges, except for the thumb, which has two.
In addition to bones, the hand contains various muscles, tendons, and ligaments that enable movement and grip. The flexor and extensor muscles control finger movements, while ligaments provide stability. The intricate structure of the hand allows for a wide range of functions, from grasping objects to performing delicate tasks.
