Greek Enlightenment
The Greek Enlightenment, occurring in the 18th century, was a period marked by a surge in intellectual and cultural development in Greece. Influenced by the broader European Enlightenment, it emphasized reason, science, and individualism. Greek scholars began to explore ideas of democracy, human rights, and education, often drawing inspiration from ancient Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
This movement also played a crucial role in the revival of the Greek language and literature, as well as the promotion of national identity. Key figures, such as Rigas Feraios, contributed to the rise of nationalism and the eventual struggle for independence from Ottoman rule, fostering a sense of unity among the Greek people.
