Rigas Feraios
Rigas Feraios was a prominent Greek revolutionary and intellectual born in 1757 in Velestino, Greece. He is best known for his role in the early stages of the Greek War of Independence against Ottoman rule. Rigas was a key figure in promoting the idea of a united Balkan state and advocated for social and political reforms.
Feraios is also recognized for his literary contributions, including the famous work "Thourios," a revolutionary anthem that inspired many during the struggle for freedom. His vision of national liberation and unity continues to influence Greek identity and history, despite his execution in 1798.
