Greek Revolution
The Greek Revolution, also known as the Greek War of Independence, began in 1821 and aimed to free Greece from Ottoman Empire rule. The revolution was fueled by a desire for national identity and independence, inspired by the Enlightenment and other European revolutions.
After years of struggle, the revolutionaries gained support from various European powers, leading to the establishment of an independent Greek state in 1830. Key figures in the revolution included Theodoros Kolokotronis and Lord Byron, who played significant roles in both military and financial support for the Greek cause.
