Greek Cypriots
Greek Cypriots are the ethnic Greek population of Cyprus, an island in the eastern Mediterranean. They primarily speak Greek and share a rich cultural heritage that includes traditions, music, and cuisine. The majority of Greek Cypriots are members of the Greek Orthodox Church, which plays a significant role in their community life.
Historically, Greek Cypriots have had a complex relationship with the Turkish Cypriots, the island's other main ethnic group. In 1974, a conflict led to the division of Cyprus into the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus in the south and the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the north, affecting the lives and identities of both communities.
