Turkish Cypriots
Turkish Cypriots are the ethnic Turkish community living on the island of Cyprus. They primarily reside in the northern part of the island, which is known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). This region declared independence in 1983 but is recognized only by Turkey.
The Turkish Cypriots have a rich cultural heritage influenced by both Turkish and Greek traditions. Their language is Turkish, and they celebrate various festivals and customs that reflect their unique identity. The community has faced political and social challenges, particularly related to the division of Cyprus since 1974.
