Granulation Techniques
Granulation techniques are methods used to create granules, which are small particles that improve the flow and handling of powders in various industries, especially in pharmaceuticals and food production. These techniques enhance the properties of powders, making them easier to mix, compress, and dissolve. Common granulation methods include wet granulation, dry granulation, and extrusion-spheronization.
In wet granulation, a liquid binder is added to the powder mixture, causing particles to stick together and form larger granules. Dry granulation involves compressing the powder into sheets or compacts, which are then broken into granules. Extrusion-spheronization combines extrusion and spheronization to produce uniform spherical granules, often used in tablet formulations.
