Grant's Campaign
Grant's Campaign refers to the series of military operations led by General Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War, particularly from 1864 to 1865. The campaign aimed to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia, and to defeat General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Grant employed a strategy of continuous engagement, seeking to wear down Lee's forces through persistent attacks.
The campaign included significant battles such as the Battle of the Wilderness, the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, and the Battle of Cold Harbor. Despite facing heavy casualties, Grant's relentless approach ultimately led to the siege of Petersburg and the eventual fall of Richmond, contributing to the Confederacy's defeat.
