Grýla
Grýla is a giantess from Icelandic folklore, known for her fearsome appearance and her role as a child-eater. She is often depicted as having a large, hairy body and multiple heads, which adds to her terrifying image. Grýla is said to live in the mountains with her third husband, Leppalúði, and her many children, known as the Yule Lads.
In Icelandic tradition, Grýla is associated with the Christmas season. She is believed to descend from the mountains during this time to capture misbehaving children and take them back to her cave. Her story serves as a cautionary tale, encouraging children to behave well during the festive season.
