Gillnet
A gillnet is a type of fishing gear designed to catch fish by entangling them in a mesh net. The net is typically made of nylon or other synthetic materials and is set vertically in the water column. Fish swim into the net and get caught by their gills, which prevents them from escaping. Gillnets can be used in both freshwater and saltwater environments.
Gillnets come in various sizes and mesh configurations, allowing fishermen to target specific species such as salmon, trout, or cod. While effective, gillnets can also pose risks to non-target species, including sea turtles and marine mammals, leading to concerns about their environmental impact.
