Geshe
A Geshe is a title given to scholars in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition who have completed extensive studies in Buddhist philosophy and scriptures. This title is often awarded after rigorous examinations, typically at a monastic university, such as Sera Monastery or Ganden Monastery. The term "Geshe" translates to "spiritual friend," reflecting the role of these scholars in guiding others on their spiritual paths.
The Geshe program usually takes around 20 years to complete, covering various subjects, including Madhyamaka and Abhidharma. Graduates often become teachers, sharing their knowledge and insights with students and lay practitioners, thereby contributing to the preservation and dissemination of Tibetan Buddhism.
