Geography of Ireland
The geography of Ireland consists of a lush landscape characterized by rolling hills, rugged coastlines, and numerous lakes and rivers. The island is divided into two main political entities: Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland. The terrain includes the Sierra of Mourne in the north and the Macgillycuddy's Reeks in the south, which is home to the highest peak, Carrauntoohil.
Ireland's climate is classified as temperate maritime, resulting in mild winters and cool summers. The island experiences frequent rainfall, contributing to its green countryside, often referred to as the "Emerald Isle." Major rivers like the Shannon and Liffey flow through the landscape, while coastal features include cliffs, beaches, and islands such as Achill Island and the Aran Islands.
