Geographic Combatant Commands
Geographic Combatant Commands are major components of the United States military structure, responsible for specific regions of the world. Each command oversees military operations, planning, and strategy within its designated area, ensuring the U.S. can respond effectively to regional threats and maintain security.
There are six primary Geographic Combatant Commands: U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), U.S. European Command (EUCOM), U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM). These commands work closely with allied nations and other U.S. government agencies to promote stability and peace in their regions.
