Genetically Modified Crops
Genetically modified crops are plants whose DNA has been altered using biotechnology to enhance certain traits. These modifications can improve resistance to pests, increase yield, or enhance nutritional content. Common examples include Bt corn, which is engineered to resist insect damage, and Golden Rice, enriched with vitamin A.
The development of genetically modified crops aims to address challenges in agriculture, such as food security and environmental sustainability. While they can lead to higher productivity and reduced pesticide use, the use of these crops is often debated regarding their safety and impact on biodiversity.
