Gardner Museum Heist
The Gardner Museum Heist occurred on March 18, 1990, when two men disguised as police officers entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. They gained access by claiming to respond to a disturbance and then proceeded to steal 13 pieces of art valued at around $500 million, including works by Vermeer and Rembrandt.
Despite extensive investigations by the FBI and other agencies, the stolen artworks have never been recovered. The case remains one of the largest unsolved crimes in the art world, and the museum still offers a $10 million reward for information leading to the return of the stolen pieces.
