Gallinule
The gallinule is a medium-sized waterbird belonging to the family Rallidae. It is commonly found in wetlands, marshes, and along the edges of lakes and rivers. Gallinules have long legs and a distinctive, colorful bill, often with a red frontal shield. They are known for their ability to walk on floating vegetation and are often seen foraging for seeds, insects, and aquatic plants.
There are several species of gallinules, including the American Gallinule and the Purple Gallinule. These birds are generally shy and prefer to stay hidden among reeds and grasses. They are also known for their loud calls, which can be heard during the breeding season.
