Coot
The Coot is a medium-sized waterbird belonging to the family Rallidae. It is commonly found in freshwater habitats such as lakes, ponds, and marshes across Europe, Asia, and North America. Coots are easily recognizable by their distinctive white bill and frontal shield, along with their dark plumage. They are strong swimmers and divers, using their lobed toes to navigate through water.
Coots primarily feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are social birds, often seen in groups, especially during the breeding season. Their nests are typically built among reeds or other vegetation near the water's edge, where they lay several eggs that both parents help to incubate.
