Moorhen
The moorhen is a medium-sized waterbird belonging to the rail family, known scientifically as *Gallinula chloropus*. It is commonly found in wetlands, ponds, and marshes across Europe, Asia, and North America. Moorhens have a distinctive appearance, featuring a dark body, a bright red frontal shield, and yellow-green legs. They are often seen swimming or walking along the edges of water bodies.
Moorhens are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of plants, seeds, insects, and small aquatic animals. They are known for their loud calls and can be quite territorial during the breeding season. Their nests are typically built among reeds or dense vegetation, providing safety for their chicks.
