Gaius Cestius
Gaius Cestius was a Roman magistrate and a notable figure from the 1st century BCE. He is best known for his impressive tomb, the Pyramid of Cestius, located in Rome. This structure, built around 18-12 BCE, is a striking example of Egyptian influence on Roman architecture.
The Pyramid of Cestius stands approximately 30 meters tall and is made of brick-faced concrete, covered with white marble. It served as a burial place for Cestius and reflects the Roman fascination with Egyptian culture during that period. The pyramid is part of the Aurelian Walls and remains a significant historical landmark today.
