Free Territory
The "Free Territory" was a region in Ukraine during the Russian Civil War (1917-1922) that was governed by anarchist principles. It was established by the Makhnovist movement, led by Nestor Makhno, who aimed to create a society based on self-management and voluntary cooperation. The area was characterized by collective farming and local governance, rejecting centralized authority.
The Free Territory existed primarily from 1918 to 1921 and was marked by its resistance to both Bolshevik and White Army forces. Despite its initial successes, the Free Territory ultimately fell to the Bolsheviks, leading to the suppression of the anarchist movement in Ukraine.
