Francesco II of the Two Sicilies
Francesco II of the Two Sicilies was the last king of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, reigning from 1859 until 1861. He was born on January 16, 1836, and became king at a young age after the abdication of his father, Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies. His reign was marked by political turmoil and the rise of the Italian unification movement.
In 1860, the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies faced invasion by the forces of Giuseppe Garibaldi, who aimed to unify Italy. Francesco II's attempts to defend his kingdom were unsuccessful, leading to his eventual abdication and the annexation of his realm into the newly formed Kingdom of Italy. He died in exile in 1894.
