Fourth Ventricle
The Fourth Ventricle is a fluid-filled cavity located in the brain, specifically between the brainstem and the cerebellum. It is part of the ventricular system, which produces and circulates cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that cushions the brain and spinal cord. The fourth ventricle connects to the third ventricle through the cerebral aqueduct and extends down to the central canal of the spinal cord.
This ventricle has a unique shape, resembling a diamond or a tent, and is lined with ependymal cells that help in the production of CSF. It also contains openings, called foramina, that allow CSF to flow into the surrounding space, ensuring proper circulation and drainage.
