Florence Griswold
Florence Griswold was an American artist and art patron, best known for her role in the Old Lyme Art Colony in Connecticut. Born in 1850, she opened her home, the Florence Griswold House, to artists seeking inspiration from the picturesque landscape. This house became a hub for the American Impressionist movement in the early 20th century.
Griswold's home not only provided lodging but also fostered a creative community. Many notable artists, including Childe Hassam and Willard Metcalf, painted there, contributing to the development of American art. Today, her house is a museum celebrating this rich artistic heritage.
