William Merritt Chase
William Merritt Chase was an American painter born on November 1, 1849, in Williamsburg, Indiana. He became known for his contributions to the American Impressionism movement and was a prominent figure in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chase studied at the National Academy of Design and later in Europe, where he was influenced by the works of French Impressionists.
Chase was celebrated for his still lifes, landscapes, and portraits, often featuring vibrant colors and dynamic brushwork. He also played a significant role in art education, founding the Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art in New York, which helped train many aspiring artists. Chase passed away on October 25, 1916.
