Fitzroya
Fitzroya is a genus of trees native to the southern regions of South America, particularly found in Chile and Argentina. These trees are known for their impressive height and longevity, with some individuals living for over a thousand years. The most well-known species is Fitzroya cupressoides, commonly referred to as the alerce.
The wood of Fitzroya is highly valued for its durability and resistance to decay, making it popular for construction and furniture. However, due to overexploitation and habitat loss, these trees are now considered endangered. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining populations and habitats.
