First Jacobite Rebellion
The First Jacobite Rebellion took place in 1715 in Britain, aiming to restore the Stuart monarchy to the throne. Supporters of the rebellion, known as Jacobites, sought to reinstate James Francis Edward Stuart, the son of the deposed King James II, after the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The uprising began in Scotland and was marked by several battles, including the notable Battle of Sheriffmuir.
Despite initial successes, the rebellion ultimately failed due to lack of support and military resources. The government forces defeated the Jacobites, leading to the consolidation of the Hanoverian rule. The aftermath saw increased repression of Scottish culture and further attempts to suppress future uprisings.
