First Coalition
The First Coalition was a military alliance formed in 1792 during the early stages of the French Revolutionary Wars. It included several European powers, such as Austria, Prussia, Great Britain, Spain, and the Dutch Republic, who united against the expansionist policies of revolutionary France. The coalition aimed to restore the monarchy in France and curb the spread of revolutionary ideas.
The conflict lasted until 1797, culminating in a series of battles, including the notable Battle of Valmy and Battle of Fleurus. Ultimately, the coalition faced significant defeats, leading to the signing of the Treaty of Campo Formio, which favored France and marked the decline of the coalition's influence.
