Femoroacetabular Impingement
Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) is a condition where the bones of the hip joint do not fit together perfectly, leading to abnormal contact during movement. This can cause pain and limit the range of motion in the hip. FAI typically occurs due to structural abnormalities in the femur (thigh bone) or acetabulum (hip socket).
There are two main types of FAI: cam impingement, where the femoral head is misshapen, and pincer impingement, where the acetabulum is overly deep. Symptoms often include hip pain, stiffness, and discomfort during activities like walking or sitting. Early diagnosis and treatment can help manage symptoms effectively.
