Factitious Disorder
Factitious Disorder is a mental health condition where a person intentionally produces or exaggerates symptoms of illness to gain attention or sympathy. This behavior is not motivated by external rewards, such as financial gain, but rather by a deep-seated need for emotional support and care.
Individuals with Factitious Disorder may go to great lengths to appear sick, including falsifying medical histories or tampering with medical tests. This disorder can lead to serious health risks, as the person may undergo unnecessary medical procedures or treatments. Treatment typically involves psychotherapy to address underlying psychological issues.
