Munchausen Syndrome
Munchausen Syndrome is a mental health disorder where a person deliberately pretends to be ill or feigns symptoms to gain attention and sympathy. Individuals with this condition may go to great lengths, such as lying about their medical history or even causing harm to themselves, to appear sick.
This syndrome is named after Baron Munchausen, an 18th-century German nobleman known for telling exaggerated stories about his adventures. Unlike Munchausen by Proxy, where a caregiver fabricates illness in someone else, Munchausen Syndrome involves the individual seeking attention for themselves. Treatment often requires psychological intervention.
