European bison
The European bison, also known as the wisent, is a large herbivorous mammal native to Europe. It is the continent's heaviest land animal, with males weighing up to 1,000 kilograms. European bison have a robust build, characterized by a large head, short legs, and a thick coat that varies in color from brown to dark brown.
These animals primarily inhabit forests and grasslands, where they graze on grasses, leaves, and shrubs. Once nearly extinct due to hunting and habitat loss, conservation efforts have helped increase their population. Today, European bison can be found in several protected areas across Europe, including the Białowieża Forest in Poland and Belarus.
