wisent
The wisent, also known as the European bison, is a large herbivorous mammal native to Europe. It is closely related to the American bison and is characterized by its robust build, thick fur, and large head. Wisents typically inhabit forests and grasslands, where they graze on a variety of vegetation.
Once widespread across Europe, the wisent faced severe population declines due to hunting and habitat loss. Conservation efforts have helped to reintroduce the species into several areas, including Białowieża Forest in Poland and Belarus. Today, the wisent is considered a symbol of wildlife conservation in Europe.
