Ernst I, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg
Ernst I, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg was born on December 21, 1826, and became the Duke of Saxe-Altenburg in 1850. He was a member of the House of Saxe-Altenburg, a branch of the larger House of Wettin. His reign lasted until his death on July 7, 1908, and he is remembered for his efforts to modernize the duchy and improve its infrastructure.
