Enver Hoxha
Enver Hoxha was an Albanian communist leader who ruled Albania from 1944 until his death in 1985. He established a strict Stalinist regime, promoting isolationism and state control over the economy. Hoxha's government was known for its repression of political dissent and the establishment of a one-party state.
Under Hoxha's leadership, Albania became one of the most isolated countries in Europe, severing ties with both the Soviet Union and China at different points. His policies led to significant industrialization but also widespread poverty and hardship for the population. Hoxha's legacy remains controversial, with debates about his impact on Albania's history.
