Ensete
Ensete is a genus of flowering plants in the banana family, primarily found in Ethiopia. It is often referred to as "false banana" because its appearance resembles that of a banana plant, but it does not produce edible fruit. Instead, the plant's starchy pseudostems and corms are used as a staple food source in some regions.
The most well-known species is Ensete ventricosum, which is cultivated for its nutritious underground parts. This plant plays a crucial role in the diets of many communities in Ethiopia, where it is processed into various traditional dishes, highlighting its importance in local agriculture and food security.
