Ensete ventricosum
Ensete ventricosum, commonly known as the Ethiopian banana or false banana, is a large herbaceous plant native to the highlands of Ethiopia. Unlike true bananas, it does not produce edible fruit. Instead, its starchy pseudostems and corms are cultivated for food, particularly in traditional diets.
This plant can grow up to 10 meters tall and features large, paddle-shaped leaves. Ensete ventricosum is well-adapted to high-altitude environments and plays a crucial role in the agricultural practices of local communities, providing a vital source of nutrition and income.
