Eleanor of Castile
Eleanor of Castile was a Spanish princess born in 1241, known for her marriage to Edward I of England in 1254. She became Queen of England and played a significant role in the political landscape of her time. Eleanor was the daughter of Ferdinand III of Castile and Joanna of Ponthieu, which strengthened ties between England and Spain.
Eleanor is remembered for her loyalty and support of Edward during his reign. She accompanied him on military campaigns and was influential in court politics. After her death in 1290, Edward commissioned the famous Eleanor Crosses to honor her memory, marking the route of her funeral procession.
