Eleanor Crosses
The Eleanor Crosses are a series of twelve stone monuments erected in England in the 13th century. They were built to commemorate the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine, the wife of King Edward I. The crosses mark the route taken by her funeral procession from Lincoln to Westminster Abbey after her death in 1290.
Each cross is intricately designed and reflects the Gothic architectural style of the time. The most famous of these crosses is the one located at Charing Cross, which has become a significant landmark in London. The remaining crosses are scattered across various locations, with some still standing today.
