Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset
Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset (c. 1500–1552), was a prominent English nobleman and politician during the reign of King Edward VI. He was the brother of Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII, which helped him gain significant influence at court. In 1547, he was appointed Lord Protector for the young king, effectively ruling England during Edward's minority.
As Lord Protector, Somerset implemented various reforms, including religious changes that advanced Protestantism in England. However, his leadership faced challenges, including military failures and economic difficulties, leading to his eventual downfall. In 1549, he was arrested and later executed in 1552.
