Edmund of Langley
Edmund of Langley (1341-1402) was the first Duke of York, a title he received in 1385. He was the fourth son of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault. Edmund played a significant role in the politics of his time, particularly during the early stages of the Hundred Years' War.
As a nobleman, Edmund held various positions, including serving as a military commander. He was involved in several campaigns in France and was known for his loyalty to the crown. His descendants, particularly through his son Edward of York, would later become prominent figures in the Wars of the Roses.
