Edgar the Aetheling
Edgar the Aetheling was a claimant to the English throne in the 11th century. Born around 1051, he was the grandson of King Edmund Ironside and a member of the royal lineage. After the death of King Edward the Confessor in 1066, Edgar was proclaimed king by some nobles, but he was unable to secure the throne due to the invasion of William the Conqueror.
Following his defeat at the Battle of Hastings, Edgar fled to Scotland and later returned to England. He lived in relative obscurity and was eventually granted lands by William but never ruled as king. Edgar's claim to the throne remained significant in the context of English history.
